Plan a Spring Wedding – 29 Ways to Tie in the Season
The tulips are blooming, the temperatures are rising – what a perfect time for a wedding! Get started planning your spring themed wedding now with these inspiring ideas for spring weddings…
Spring Theme Weddings – Things to Consider
Daylight saving time – In 2008, daylight saving time begins on Sunday March 9th, after which the sun will set an hour later. Keep this date in mind if you envision a sunset outdoor ceremony.
Prom factor – May and June are prime prom months, so be sure to book your transportation and locations early.
Variable weather – spring weather can be unpredictable. An unseasonably warm and sunny Friday can give way to a miserably cold and rainy Saturday. Be prepared for both extremes.
All in the Details – Spring Wedding Ideas
Invitations & Stationery
- 1. Add a spring motif – such as a tulip or butterfly – to your stationery suite
- 2. Consider color – use paper or inks in a spring color palette – pastels, greens, etc.
- 3. Get whimsical – find a fun, flirty font to evoke a festive spring feeling
- 4. An added touch – insert a sprinkling of silk flowers into each envelope
Location
- 5. Garden settings abound – take advantage of budding leaves and flowers with botanical gardens, mansions with lush grounds, or another venue with a pristine garden or courtyard.
- 6. Take it indoors – if an outdoor setting isn’t possible – find an indoor venue with panoramic picture windows affording lots of sunlight and a bright airy ambiance.
Décor Elements
- 7. Color palette – 1) green and white – an elegant accompaniment to a garden setting. 2) yellow and green -another fresh, natural color pairing. 3) preppy – combine hot pink with green or mango (think polka dots and gingham). 4) chocolate brown – this trendy hue works well for spring – pair with pale blue or pink.
- 8. Go wild with patterns – create a playful effect – think gingham, polka dots, eyelet lace, swiss dots and stripes.
- 9. Add some greens – grasses and greenery are a natural for outdoor garden settings. Drape over arbors and incorporate in arrangements
Flowers
- 10. Seasonal blooms – classics include tulips, daffodils, lilies (especially calla lilies and easter lilies), magnolias, gardenias, hydrangeas, gerbera daisies, apple or cherry blossoms. View our complete list of spring wedding flowers
- 11. Creative containers – put your arrangements in simple, homespun containers like wicker baskets, watering cans, teapots, or urns.
- 12. Potted plants – potted arrangements create a natural, organic look. Best of all -you can plant them for a timeless reminder of your wedding
Menu
- 13. In Season – serve a main dish featuring ham or lamb
- 14. Fresh produce – round out the meal with a bounty of fresh fruits and young vegetables like baby carrots, baby asparagus and new potatoes
- 15. Elegant sides – serve mini quiches or update traditional deviled eggs by adding salmon or crabmeat
- 16. Bar favorites – a spring menu seems to call for champagne. Mix up a batch of mimosas for a morning wedding, or create a festive champagne cocktail.
Wedding Cake
- 17. Coconut Confection – coconut frosting and fillings make a quintessential spring treat
- 18. Crazy for carrot – carrot cake with cream cheese icing is another springtime fave.
- 19. Light and fluffy – go with angel food cake and fresh strawberries or strawberry cream
- 20. Whimsical adornments – decorate with bright, fanciful details like ribbon, swiss dots or swirl patterns.
Attire
- 21. Loosen up – feel free to relax the dress code a bit, especially if the wedding will take place outside
- 22. Lighten up – lighter fabrics like lace or cotton create a perfect springtime look
- 23. Wedding gown – Add some color with a sash or detailed embroidery
- 24. Bridesmaids dresses – Pastels are a springtime classic. Keep yours fresh by choosing a color and allowing each of your maids to select a different hue. Or go in another direction with a bolder turquoise, fuschia or mango.
- 25. Avoid satin shoes – they don’t hold up well under springtime showers
- 26. The guys – They’ll look seasonably appropriate in tan suits, colored shirts and ties. For a formal evening affair, a basic tux always works.
Favors
- 27. Keep love blooming – with packs of flower seeds
- 28. Plant it – give miniature potted plants or herbs
Getaway
- 29. Horse-drawn carriage – this Cinderella-like getaway make a fitting finale to an ethereal springtime wedding

Wedding Speeches – The Mother of the Brides Speech
"Its your daughters big day, your little girl, the same little girl you have raised and loved for all these years is having the biggest day of her life and she has bestowed upon you the honor of making a mother of the brides speech at her wedding. What will you say in your speech, what should you include and what should you leave out?"
More and more mothers are being asked to preform a mother of the brides speech at their daughters wedding day. Whether its because you raised her as a single mother or dad has passed away or just doing the modern thing by being included in the wedding speeches, you are naturally thrilled to be asked to preform such a task, but also a little nervous (or maybe more than a little nervous!) about getting it right.
You want your mother of the brides speech to convey to your daughter just how you feel about her and how thrilled you are to see her walk down the aisle, but you don’t want to overdo it and come off too smaltzy or embarrassing. You want to make sure you thank all the people you need to thank, while you try to hold it together emotionally.
Weddings are an extremely busy time for mothers of the bride, there is all the planning and coordinating that needs to take place, the last thing you want to be doing is spending hours agonizing over the details of your mother of the brides speech. I often recommend to mother’s of the bride that they get themselves a professionally written guide that will take the pain, anxiety and time out of writing a mother of the brides speech. Using one of these guides can have you finishing up your speech within an hour, leaving you time to get on with other more important things for your daughters day.
If you would rather leave it up to the experts and save your self a lot of stress and time, then have a look at the following Mother of the Brides Speech it will help you put together the perfect mother of the brides speech for your daughters wedding.
Hoping your daughters day is filled with joy and great memories!

A Good Best Man Speech – Structure is the Key to Success April 19, 2009

A Good Best Man Speech – Structure is the Key to Success
The modern wedding is far more flexible, nowadays, in regard to who will be speaking and conducting the toasts. For this reason it is extremely important that you discuss, with the Bride and Groom, the format before you start to prepare your best man speech. That said the best man speech structure that I present here is suitable for most types of weddings. Follow this and it will provide good insight into what is expected of you and allow you to focus your speech preparation and research.
The following structure is not intended to be rigid and should not be interpreted as such. Obviously some sections you should consider as mandatory, such as "Open the speech", whilst others are not. Additionally there is no reason why you cannot reorder some of the sections.
Open the speech
Typically you would open the speech by introducing yourself and, perhaps, mention your relationship with the Groom. It is vital that you start confidently to ensure you gain the full attention of the guests.
Give thanks to others
Take a brief moment to thank key participants, such as the Ushers and Pageboy. Other people to thank may be friends and family that have assisted with the wedding preparation.
Unsettle the Groom
Promise the guests that you have some embarrassing stories about the Groom to follow. You can go over the top here, unsettling the Groom doesn’t really mean you are going to reveal all!
Give thanks on behalf of the Bridesmaids
If the Groom has commented on the Bridesmaids or presented gifts then it is customary to thank him, on their behalf. This part is important so don’t forget it!
Congratulate the wedding couple
Make it sincere and keep it brief. The couple have probably been congratulated non-stop since leaving the church. Nonetheless you will also want to formally congratulate them, so this is your opportunity.
Admire the Bride
Remember this is her big day so keep it sincere. There is no reason why you can’t have a little dig at the Groom, at this point, though! For instance you could mention how lovely she looks and feign surprise at her agreeing to marry the Groom.
Put in some humorous anecdotes
This is the point where you can recall stories about the Groom, usually recalling some of the antics that you both got up to in the past. You can also recall some stories here about the Bride and Groom’s relationship, including how they met.
Ridicule the Groom
Time for the character assassination! Remember, though, don’t go over the top and particularly don’t mention his past relationships.
Get serious
This is the part where you can add some personal sincerity. You could mention how proud you are to be the Best Man, include some praise for the Groom and perhaps mention your relationship.
Offer some advice
You can add your own thoughts on marriage to both the Bride and Groom. Typically this would be light hearted and humorous, but can also be sincere.
Read some messages
Read some messages from absentees, some humorous spoof messages, include a famous quote or perhaps a poem.
Close the speech
It’s time to wind up your speech. You could mention how relieved you are that it is nearly over and reiterate some thanks and how proud you are. Also if there are any announcements that need to be made then make them now.
Propose a toast
Finish with a toast to the Bride and Groom.
If you include all of these sections then you can be confident of giving a funny best man speech that ticks all of the right boxes in regard to etiquette. Remember, though, to research properly to ensure you set the correct speech tone. The Groom and your friends may think it funny if you mention some of the skeletons in his closet but some of the other guests may not!

Wedding Speeches – The Maid of Honor Wedding Speech
It’s becoming more and more common these days, to be not only bestowed with the privilege of being the maid of honor at your best friend or sisters wedding, but to be asked to make a speech as well.
Making a speech is hard at the best of times, but writing and performing one at a wedding is that much more daunting, particularly if you have been given the task of performing the maid of honor wedding speech.
You’re nervous enough about having to perform it on the day let alone try to get the tone and content of it just perfect.
The maid of honor wedding speech is different to the other speeches given at a wedding, its not a good idea to be as irreverent as the best mans speech maybe, but also you need to be careful not to steal the brides or the mother of the brides thunder by filling your speech with too many emotional sentiments, you need to keep it light and fun without being to flippant.
Taking the time to put together your maid of honor wedding speech is also a pain. The maid of honor has a multitude of things to get done before and during a wedding, it’s the last thing you want to be spending time on.
Luckily there is a solution, these days there are a number of services and guides available online that will help you put together the perfect maid of honor wedding speech in no time at all.

Cute Flat Wedding Shoes April 19, 2009

Cute Flat Wedding Shoes
The shoes that you choose for your wedding have to fulfill a lot of requirements. They need to be comfortable, beautiful, and work with your wedding gown. When high heels are not an option, some brides think that they will never be able to find cute flats; don’t fret, though, because there are actually some great styles out there.
There are plenty of reasons why a bride might decide to wear flat shoes for her wedding. She might be having her ceremony on grass or sand, and wants a shoe that won’t sink into the turf. If her fiance is not much taller than she is, many a bride feels like a low shoe is important for the sake of the wedding photos. Or perhaps you just want to be comfortable. In my case, one of my bridesmaids wisely pointed out that I didn’t know how to walk gracefully in heels, and my wedding day was certainly not the time to learn! (It was good advice – I went with the flats, a classic pair of Kenneth Cole white silk flats with a small tailored bow.)
Whatever your reason, there is going to be a pair of flat shoes that is perfect for your wedding. In most cases brides prefer to go with a bridal shoe in a fabric that matches the white or ivory of her gown; there is not rule, though, that you can’t be more playful with your wedding shoes. This is especially true if you are wearing a very full skirted gown, since your guests will really only be getting a glimpse of the shoes anyway. Go ahead and choose a flat in an elegant silver or gold silk, or really be bold and wear a bright red silk shoe (a peep-toe style could be adorable).
One option that many brides like is to wear ballet slippers. You know that you won’t have blisters on your feet by the end of the night if you choose this super comfy type of flat. Real ballet slippers (as opposed to a ballet slipper style of shoe) have very soft soles which over time will form to your feet. They actually are made in one shape – there is no right or left slipper – so you will want to wear them around the house to get them to conform to your feet (otherwise they look funny).
Not every bride embraces the idea of wearing a flat shoe for her wedding, especially those who are only doing it so that they will not tower over their new husband. Even if you are normally a stiletto lover, you can still find flats that are stylish and sophisticated. There are a few wedding shoes designers who specialize in low strappy shoes, like Stuart Weitman (also nice for the mother of the bride who wants a comfortable dressy shoe).
Plain shoes can also be customized to make them more special. If you find a pair of shoes that feels great but needs some pizazz, buy them, and plan to embellish them to coordinate with the rest of your wedding ensemble. Brides love sparkle, and many of them will add some crystal or rhinestone accents to their wedding shoes to go with their crystal bridal jewelry. All you do is pick out an element from your bridal jewelry that you really love, such as a small crystal flower, and stitch it to the toe of the shoe. This is a particularly great idea for brides who are wearing silk thongs for beach weddings. A little bit of sparkle will take the flip flop from casual to elegant.
Once you start looking, you will realize that there are lots of cute wedding flats available. They may not be as sexy as a pair of sky high heels, but when you are still dancing at the end of the night instead of limping like the bride who chose the stilettos, you will be glad you went with the flats!

Planning a Wedding in Hard Times April 19, 2009

Planning a Wedding in Hard Times
Is the economy putting a damper on your wedding plans?
This economy has been tough on everyone. But, if you’re a future bride trying to plan a wedding – you might be torn between your dream wedding and spending lots of cash. Here are some ideas for cutting your costs and still get the wedding of your dreams.
Location:
Think about taking a date off season or a date in the very near future. Some reception halls are willing to give you a good deal on a date that may be two months away if they haven’t booked it yet.
Invitations
Think about printing them on your trusty laserjet. Some of the larger office supply stores sell packages of invitations that you can print on the computer yourself. You can also cut costs buy not using a calligrapher – there are so many fonts to choose from right on your PC. It may take a little more time – but you could save anywhere from $2 to $5 per invite!
Dress
Online auctions, second hand stores, even sample sales are all great ways to get that designer dress of your dreams. And when the day is over, think about consignment shops. You might get a little bit of money back for your dress.
Favors
Honestly, I have never kept a single favor from a wedding. Really, nobody is going to miss them. If you really feel like you can’t go without. Think about making a small donation to your favorite charity and leaving a note under your guest’s place setting. Charities are really in need these days so you’d be doing everyone a favor.
Flowers
One of the best pieces of advice that I got when I was planning my wedding was from a family friend. She told me that when you go to the florist, give them a number to work with, the estimated number of tables and what you have in mind. This way they can work within your budget and give you what you want. If you tell them what you want first – they’re likely to price it much higher.
Photography
I would not suggest that you go without one – long after the day is over, pictures and memories are all that you will have to remember your wedding. Some photographers are willing to work with you. Consider having them for only a few hours and getting your photos on CD instead of in an album.
Honeymoon
If you’re willing to wait until the last minute to plan, you might just get a good deal. With the bad economy so many airlines and hotels are struggling and have great deals. Or don’t fly – drive. Rent a cabin in the woods. Who cares where you go, just as long as you’re relaxing together. (Remember – the only thing you need to bring on your honeymoon is a bathrobe in case there is a fire at the hotel!)

How to Make Your Own Free Printable Wedding Invitations April 19, 2009

How to Make Your Own Free Printable Wedding Invitations
The best free printable wedding invitations are the invitations you design and print yourself. And you can do this with a little research and creativity, your computer and printer and some basic office supplies.
Once you have your design and color theme, you just need to create your invitations in your desktop publishing program then print them out, fold them or cut them in half. Your design can include a wedding watermark, which is a faded picture or design in the background that you print over top of, like a dove, wedding rings, flowers or a bouquet. Or you can simply make a border around the page. How fancy you want to get depends on what you want.
You can get a lot of design ideas just by doing an Internet search for wedding invitations. Find something that you can easily recreate yourself with your own computer programs. If you need a desktop publishing program to create your invitations, Open Source free software has a full office suite that’s free and compatible with Microsoft Office products. You can download the OpenOffice Suite at openoffice.org.
Next you’ll need the paper or card stock to print the invitations out on. You can get paper at almost any department store in either the office section or for more colors and textures, check the arts & crafts departments. A traditional wedding invitation size is 4.25" x 5.5", or a standard letter size sheet of paper folded exactly in half. You can do a lot of things with this basic design to make your invitations a bit classier or give them a fun look, or whatever you want to do.
If you want a flat one-sided invitation, you’ll want to buy a heavier paper or card stock to print the invitations out on. For a folded invitation, you’ll want something a little thinner than card stock so when you fold it, it creases nicely and stays folded. But you want the paper heavy enough so the ink doesn’t bleed through.
The easiest free printable wedding invitations to make though are the flat invitations printed on one side. You can dress them up easily by punching a hole in the top and adding ribbon or other type of craft embellishment. Or you can use a colored card stock as a backing for a lighter weight paper that the invitation is printed out on. This gives the invitations a classy layered looked which are very nice. They’ll look like you spent a nice amount of money on them when all you did was buy the paper stock.
To give your invitations that classy layered look, the card stock would be the 4.25" x 5.5" size, or cut the card stock exactly in half. Then you print the invitation on 24 lb. presentation paper. After you print the invitation, take each one and trim it down by about a half inch all the way around and attach it to the color card stock.
You can put a spot of glue at the top of them and attach the invitation to the card stock or punch a hole through the top of each for an embellishment to keep them attached. Either way you have a very beautiful and almost free invitation. How simple, traditional, modern or classic you want your invitations is only limited by your imagination!

Wedding Dress Patterns – Make Your Own Dream Dress! April 19, 2009

Wedding Dress Patterns – Make Your Own Dream Dress!
One way to get the designer dress you have always dreamed of is to make it yourself or have someone you know make it for you. Even if you hire out the sewing job, it will be cheaper than actually buying that designer gown that you saw some movie star wear on a magazine cover.
You would choose a wedding dress pattern in the same way you would choose a wedding dress from a boutique. Choose a style that you love and that is good for your body type. One way you can do this if you are not sure if it will suit your body type is to go to a boutique, find a similar style, and try it on.
The best way to find the best patterns is to visit several pattern maker’s Internet websites or call and ask for a catalog of wedding dress patterns. When you get the catalogs you can start looking for the dream gown that you want. You can also look at the bridal salons to get an idea of what you want and then look for the pattern. You will be using a bridal salon to order the bridesmaids dresses anyway so it causes no harm.
Since you have decided to sew your own dress or have one made for you, you may be wondering how much it will cost to have it made. There are a few considerations that will help to determine that such as the type of fabric you will be using to make your dress. Fabrics can be pricey, and wedding gowns have many different types of fabrics in them as a rule. For example most dresses are made of satin and lace with tulle underneath.
Do your research and watch for fabric sales at fabric stores and online. Fabric can run from about $4.00 per yard and up. You can even find wedding gowns that are being sold very inexpensively that you might be able to use several things off of on your own gown.
The second consideration is whether you will be making the gown or hiring the sewing job out to someone else. If you will be doing the sewing yourself, the cost will be just materials. If you hire a seamstress, you will have to look around for one that has rates that you can afford. It will run you two to five hundred dollars depending on the complexity of the design, and the detail that will need to go into it.
There will be many fittings, and design aspects of the dress that you will have to decide on. Do you want a long train and if so you will need a bustle. You also need to make a veil which is not hard to do, and you can match it perfectly to your gown by using some accents on it that are used on your gown. You can also purchase a veil.
Be sure to go over every small detail of your dress to make sure that is exactly the way you want it. It will look like that designer gown you saw on the cover of that magazine and no doubt you will look just as beautiful in it.

Trendy Wedding Hairstyles April 19, 2009

Trendy Wedding Hairstyles
How you wear your hair will have a huge impact on your wedding day look. It can be elegant and romantic, or it can be something you will regret in later years (’80s bang ball, anyone?). To make sure that your wedding day hairstyle is a "do", check out the latest trends.
Romance is the key for all of today’s most popular hairstyles. Your hairdo should look fresh and easy, not overly styled or contrived. You definitely do not want your hair to look stiff or heavily sprayed. It should look as though you could remove a few pins and let it tumble over your shoulders in a sexy cascade (even if it is really held together by fifty pins and a whole can of hairspray!)
These soft styles are often gathered back away from the face. One thing that you do not see in the wedding magazines these days is bangs, especially the kind that are cut straight across the forehead. If your wedding is at least a few months away, that should be enough time to grow out your bangs long enough so that your stylist can sweep them off to one side for a fresh and current look.
Relaxed waves are the order of the day; pin straight hair is not what brides are wearing now. If you would like to wear your hair down for your wedding day, loose waves can be done in a few different ways. They can be beachy and a little messy, or they can be smooth and elegant, with just the right amount of movement. Picture Veronica Lake’s iconic hairstyle, only not so perfect. For cascading waves, a pretty pearl comb will be the ideal type of bridal jewelry for your hair.
Most of the trendiest wedding hairstyles involve pulling the hair back into some sort of knot or bun. It is from there that you see many variations. As with the natural waves, these are loose knots, not tight ballerina buns or pristine chignons. They should look a little like you just pulled the hair back yourself in a hurry (only in the hands of a good stylist, the knot will still look artfully done). Allow a few tendrils of hair to spring free around your face.
Braids are being used to create some very romantic hairstyles for brides with long hair. We are not talking about two perfect braids, nor the ubiquitous French braids of the 1980s. These braids are not prim or schoolgirlish; they are flirty, soft, and vintage inspired. One long loose braid in the back is one pretty option for wedding hair. Even more interesting are the intricate knots and buns that stylists are creating by twisting braids together at the nape of the neck. For your hair bridal jewelry, finish off the look with a scattering of beautiful crystal or pearl pins tucked into the knot.
The current trends in bridal hairstyles are a perfect pairing with the romantic and eclectic gowns that are in vogue. A soft chiffon wedding dress will look even better when the bride’s hair is gathered up into a loose vintagey pouf in the back. Your wedding day hairdo should definitely complement your gown, as well as bring out the natural beauty of your face.
