Cute Flat Wedding Shoes April 19, 2009

Cute Flat Wedding Shoes Bookmark and Share

The shoes that you choose for your wedding have to fulfill a lot of requirements. They need to be comfortable, beautiful, and work with your wedding gown. When high heels are not an option, some brides think that they will never be able to find cute flats; don’t fret, though, because there are actually some great styles out there.

There are plenty of reasons why a bride might decide to wear flat shoes for her wedding. She might be having her ceremony on grass or sand, and wants a shoe that won’t sink into the turf. If her fiance is not much taller than she is, many a bride feels like a low shoe is important for the sake of the wedding photos. Or perhaps you just want to be comfortable. In my case, one of my bridesmaids wisely pointed out that I didn’t know how to walk gracefully in heels, and my wedding day was certainly not the time to learn! (It was good advice – I went with the flats, a classic pair of Kenneth Cole white silk flats with a small tailored bow.)

Whatever your reason, there is going to be a pair of flat shoes that is perfect for your wedding. In most cases brides prefer to go with a bridal shoe in a fabric that matches the white or ivory of her gown; there is not rule, though, that you can’t be more playful with your wedding shoes. This is especially true if you are wearing a very full skirted gown, since your guests will really only be getting a glimpse of the shoes anyway. Go ahead and choose a flat in an elegant silver or gold silk, or really be bold and wear a bright red silk shoe (a peep-toe style could be adorable).

One option that many brides like is to wear ballet slippers. You know that you won’t have blisters on your feet by the end of the night if you choose this super comfy type of flat. Real ballet slippers (as opposed to a ballet slipper style of shoe) have very soft soles which over time will form to your feet. They actually are made in one shape – there is no right or left slipper – so you will want to wear them around the house to get them to conform to your feet (otherwise they look funny).

Not every bride embraces the idea of wearing a flat shoe for her wedding, especially those who are only doing it so that they will not tower over their new husband. Even if you are normally a stiletto lover, you can still find flats that are stylish and sophisticated. There are a few wedding shoes designers who specialize in low strappy shoes, like Stuart Weitman (also nice for the mother of the bride who wants a comfortable dressy shoe).

Plain shoes can also be customized to make them more special. If you find a pair of shoes that feels great but needs some pizazz, buy them, and plan to embellish them to coordinate with the rest of your wedding ensemble. Brides love sparkle, and many of them will add some crystal or rhinestone accents to their wedding shoes to go with their crystal bridal jewelry. All you do is pick out an element from your bridal jewelry that you really love, such as a small crystal flower, and stitch it to the toe of the shoe. This is a particularly great idea for brides who are wearing silk thongs for beach weddings. A little bit of sparkle will take the flip flop from casual to elegant.

Once you start looking, you will realize that there are lots of cute wedding flats available. They may not be as sexy as a pair of sky high heels, but when you are still dancing at the end of the night instead of limping like the bride who chose the stilettos, you will be glad you went with the flats!

The Most Fabulous Shoes For Brides and Bridesmaids

Bookmark and Share

Once you have found your dream wedding gown and beautiful bridesmaid dresses, you will get to have the fun of accessorizing them. Every woman loves a great pair of shoes, especially for a special occasion like a wedding. These are some ideas on how to pick the most fabulous shoes to accompany your gorgeous dresses.

Metallics are one of the strongest trends in bridal shoes right now. Whether you prefer a beachy pair of flat sandals or a sky-high pair of stilettos, a gold or silver shoe will look stunning. One of the nicest thing about a pair of metallic shoes is that they will be great to wear again after the wedding. This is a distinct advantage over the traditional white bridal shoes, which will languish in the back of your closet for the rest of your life.

Shimmer is also a hot trend for bridesmaids. Metallics are also very popular for attendants, in a neutral shade like bronze, silver, or pewter. Another great look is a strappy patent leather sandal. If your bridesmaids are wearing crystal bridesmaid jewelry, you may want to steer them towards a pair of shoes with a fun crystal accent to coordinate with the bridesmaid jewelry. Remember, that the best look for bridesmaids is for each one to wear a slightly different shoe. They will look more chic and feel more comfortable.

The shoes should be chosen to look terrific with the bridal gown or bridesmaid dresses. Certain styles will definitely pair better than others. If you are wearing a romantic gown, you can opt for a vintage inspired shoe. A pair of hot strappy heels is ideal with a sexy sheath dress. And you can use a dramatic shoe to add style to a very simple gown.

You are not seeing so many of the very basic white pumps these days. Brides want their wedding shoes to be spectacular and very much in style. Even the pumps that are in fashion now have a lot of detail and flair to them. Some trends include the d’orsay pump, slingbacks, and ankle strap pump. These are wonderful shoes for brides who prefer more shoe than a very open sandal, but want something chic and not frumpy.

The trend in bridesmaid dresses is for shorter styles, which means that their shoes will really show and be a focal point of their outfits. Stay away from the old-fashioned dyed-to-match shoes, which rarely end up being a perfect match anyway. Your bridesmaids will be delighted if you give them free rein to select their own shoes within a few specific parameters, such as silver sandals or black heels. A shoe in a contrasting color to the bridesmaid dress looks much fresher than one that is the exact same color.

Have fun when shopping for your wedding shoes. Don’t be afraid to pick something fun and interesting to peek out from under your dress. And remember that this is your chance to splurge on a really fabulous pair of designer shoes!

Great Ways to Accessorize a Flower Girl Dress April 19, 2009

Great Ways to Accessorize a Flower Girl Dress Bookmark and Share

By Suzann Bradle

No member of your bridal party will draw the same reaction as its youngest member. Regardless of age or behavior, the flower girl is sure to draw lots of attention. This makes it very important that she look her best. Luckily, there are numerous great ways to accessorize a flower girl dress.

Headpieces

Deciding what to put in the hair of your flower girl is a fun aspect of the wedding planning process because there are options available with a younger child that you might never consider using on the older members of your bridal party. The primary limitation you may run into is the length of her hair. There are great hair accessories for every length of hair. Make sure to involve a parent in the final headpiece selection, as they will be able to tell you which pieces might work best in their child’s hair.

The best advice is to keep it simple. While your bridesmaids will be able to sit through a session with the hair stylist, young children often become bored and will be unable to sit still. For this reason, elaborate hairstyles and accessories should be avoided.

Nothing will make your flower girl feel more like a princess than a small tiara. This is an especially appealing option if she will be wearing a dress of a similar style to the bride. Of course, flowers are also a classic option no matter whether they are worn as a garland on her head or as a few well-placed buds in her hair. If the simplest effect is desired then a thin headband in the dress’s color is a good choice for keeping unruly hairs at bay while adding a hint of color.

Sashes and Bows

For the bride looking for a way to keep a sense of uniformity to her bridal party, the addition of a sash or bow to the flower girl dress is a good idea. Not only are bows adorable on small children, but they also serve to tie in the color of the bridesmaid dresses. If the flower girl is already wearing the same color as the rest of the wedding party then an accent color may instead be used to coordinate with the wedding colors.

Sashes come in a variety of lengths so there is sure to be one to achieve any desired look. For example, if the bride will be walking down the aisle in a sash trailing down the length of the train then a longer sash could be used on the flower girl dress. Conversely, the length of the sash may also be tied into an elaborate bow with very little length.

Gloves

Gloves are a great way to add a touch of class to any flower girl look. They are a way to make her feel special by giving her the same kind of accessory the "big girls" in your wedding party wear. This will also serve as a tactile reminder of her task as she walks down the aisle.

Flower girl gloves typically come in elbow length and wrist length. An adorable idea is to select a set with a colorful bow in a shade that matches the bridesmaid dresses or the petals in the basket. However, keep in mind that not every color will be available in all glove styles. You should also remember that gloves might annoy younger children so they are best skipped unless you know your flower girl will be okay wearing them through the wedding ceremony and all the pictures.

Shoes

Shoes are a particularly important accessory for any flower girl. As most flower girl dresses do not touch the floor, they should look beautiful without sacrificing comfort. Keep in mind, the more comfortable she is, the better the chance that she will make it down the aisle without incident. This will also help her to have a better time at the reception when she might otherwise be prone to act up out of boredom when she is not eating cake.

It should be understood that the heel for a flower girl’s shoe should always be low, if not a flat style of shoe. The ultimate shoe selection should be driven by her age more than any other factor. A younger child will require shoes that buckle or otherwise fasten while an older child will be able to walk confidently in sandals or strappy shoes.

Basket

The basket is a great way to accessorize the flower girl dress. If the bride has chosen a white dress for the flower girl then a white basket with the accent color on it is a beautiful accessory. The plain white basket is also an evergreen style that will never fall out of favor.

Finding your perfect wedding dress October 1, 2008

Simple steps to finding your perfect wedding dress

Looking your best on your wedding day is essential to ensuring that your day is successful. As a bride, we want to ensure that we experience not only the best day possible, but that we also look our best. Our wedding dress is considered the prized and most valued commodity to our wedding. Whilst weddings are not primarily about the bride, many of us highly regard the bride to be the ‘highlight’ of the wedding. As a result, we encounter the pressure and stress of ensuring that we shine on the day. Often when we commence our wedding preparations, the very first thing we attempt to organise is our wedding dress. This alone can be an extremely difficult task. With an abundance of dresses to choose from, we can often become overwhelmed by the variety available. So, whilst it is a case of trying on the dress and experimenting a little, there are a few simple tips available that can take the edge off this taxing task.

As a general rule, the dress you choose should reflect your personality whilst complimenting your figure. The following should also be considered:

Quality and Workmanship

  1. Check the workmanship of the dress and ensure that it is of good quality. You don’t want the dress falling apart on the day;
  2. Sourcing designer dresses from overseas may seem customary, but Australian designers also provide elegant and stunning dresses.

Finding the right dress for your figure

  1. Make the best of your figure and chose a dress that compliments your shape.
  2. Full-figured brides should select a dress that skims the body as opposed to hugging it.
  3. If you’re pear-shaped, then choose an A-line dress to hide the hips and thighs.
  4. Thin and tall brides should select a dress that accentuates the feminine curves, as opposed to looking thin and straight.

Getting an honest opinion

  1. Ensure that you bring someone with you who will provide you with an honest opinion.
  2. Your best friend, maid of honour, mother or anyone else that has known you for a long time will be the best person to offer that constructive advice.

Budget, Budget, Budget!

  1. Remember that your dress will only be worn once, so if you’re on a tight budget, then don’t overlook the possibility of hiring your dress. You will probably find that you will be able to have that gorgeous dress you dreamt of without the price tag attached.
  2. Many websites advertise pre-loved wedding dresses for you to purchase. You may also want to have a look at this option.

Skin Tone and tanning

  1. The shade of your wedding dress should accentuate your skin tone, and not make you look washed out.
  2. If you plan on tanning for the wedding day, bear in mind that the tone of your skin could alter the colour of the dress.
  3. Tanning can also remove the eye away from the dress and your groom as the tan becomes extremely noticeable in photos. So if you want to be seen on your wedding day, ensure that you don’t go overboard with the fake tan.

Accessories and the Comfort factor

  1. Accessories are great, but a good rule of thumb is the fancier the dress, the simpler the jewellery should be.
  2. If you are wearing large and dramatic earings, then forget the necklace. Instead, try a bracelet.
  3. If you wish to wear a dramatic necklace, then opt for elegant but less dramatic earings. Bracelets are not recommended if wearing earings and a necklace.
  4. Consider the length of the dress. Envisage the type of shoes you will wear on the day and determine whether or not you will require dress alterations. You don’t want to be falling on the day.
  5. If you want minimum fuss on the day, take into account the amount of time it will take you to get into your dress. Dresses with zips are great; you can jump in and get zipped up with minimal fuss. If you don’t mind preparation time, then you might like the look of the lace up back.
  6. Whilst wearing a veil used to be traditionally part of the wedding attire, today it is strictly optional. If your dress is flamboyant, then you might like to keep it simple and not wear a veil. If you would like to formalise the dress a little, then the veil would be great.
  7. Wearing gloves may look stunning and accentuate the dress further (Cinderella look), but consider the difficulties you will have when exchanging rings. Often you find that your wedding ring will not fit over the glove.
  8. Handbags should be small and should match your wedding dress. Ensure that you arrange for someone to hold your handbag during the critical times on your day. You don’t want to be managing a bouquet whilst holding a handbag. Your certainly don’t want to have your handbag in your hand during the wedding photos as it will make your look ‘cluttered’.

Great Hair compliments the dress

  1. If your dress is simple and elegant, then you might want to have your hair in a dramatic up hair style.
  2. Alternatively, if your dress is extremely flamboyant, then consider a simple hairstyle. You don’t want to look overdone.

Departing Attire

  1. If you want to change into another outfit when leaving your reception, ensure that your outfit compliments your wedding dress.
  2. You want to be remembered as the beautiful and stunning bride, so don’t leave your guest with a last bad impression.
  3. Wear an outfit that is elegant yet comfortable. This is vital especially if you are travelling straight to your honeymoon venue.
